Good Samaritan needs your help

“I am proud I was able to help that lady that night because it could have turned out the other way had I not intervened.”

Duduza – In February 2020, Vusumuzi Sibeko lost all his belongings in a fire after he had stepped in to stop a fight between a couple.

The man returned later that night and stole furniture, including a plasma TV and an amplifier, before setting the house on fire. Everything burnt to ashes.

Vusumuzi told African Reporter he had spent the three years squatting with his girlfriend because he had nowhere else to go, and it had taken its toll.

“I am proud I helped that lady that night because it could have turned out the other way had I not intervened.

“It also breaks my heart that, in the process, I lost everything I worked so hard to build,” he said.

He hoped the perpetrator knew the dire consequences of gender-based violence (GBV). Vusumuzi said he needed help to rebuild his home, even if it was a shack.

The perpetrator was sentenced to 15 years on November 2021 – five years for theft and 10 for arson.

Those interested in helping can contact Vusumuzi on 073 718 3896 or 067 093 7343.
