Homeless man finds body of newborn at Geduld Cemetery

A homeless man found the lifeless body of a newborn girl at the Geduld Cemetery on August 1.

The man was looking for scrap in a plastic bag at the cemetery when he made the discovery.

According to Springs SAPS communications officer Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the man reportedly went to a pool club on Fourth Avenue, where he saw someone and asked that they contact the Springs SAPS.

Forensic Pathology Services collected the body. No other witnesses were identified.

There were no arrests, but the investigation is ongoing.

The police urged the community to call the Springs SAPS on 011 365 7000 if they had information that could aid their investigation.
