Online campaign to save PAM Brink Stadium launches

PAM Brink Stadium, which is dilapidated, stands alone and forgotten and could be demolished.

Online campaign to save PAM Brink Stadium officially starts

The councillors of Springs and the councillors from the sports and recreation portfolio gathered to start an online campaign for PAM Brink Stadium.

This action came after recent allegations that the stadium in Geduld would become a private cemetery and remembrance garden.

Following the news, Ward 72 Clr Dean Stone said he had received many calls from people showing an interest in the stadium.

“Quite a lot of people who no longer reside in Springs contacted me and asked me how they could get involved.

They made a lot of memories in the stadium’s grounds and were sad at the thought of seeing it demolished.

“So the online campaign will go live today (July 20), and people can sign up and do their part to save the stadium,” explained Stone.

Stone said questions he had asked the metro had not yet been answered.

“We have a council meeting on Thursday, and handing in the petition will serve as a follow-up to all our enquiries,” he said.

He emphasised the exaggeration of the suggested costs to restore the stadium.

“It’s clear that if we take a little bit of money, take down the structure, make an embankment and fix the roof, we will be okay.

“The building is still fine. Let’s get the schools in, and maybe, in time, a sports organisation can rent it from us. Then, hopefully, we can have a Springbok Test rugby match here like we used to. We just want it back to how it used to be,” he said.
