Mandela Day sees improvements at Vukucinge

Mandela Day saw many organisations dedicate their time to those in need.

Employees of Gold One and some members of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) visited Vukucinge Primary School in Slovo Park for Mandela Day.

They spent 67 minutes painting parts of the school and did a sanitary towel handout. NUM youth chairperson Yonela Madikizela said they were inspired to give back.

“We always strive to give back to schools near local mines. We usually do a rotation of Laerskool Morester, Payneville Primary and Vukucinge Primary,” he explained.

Madikizela said it felt good to support local schools.

“Most of the parents employed by the mine have their children attend these schools, so it goes beyond giving back to the community. We give back to them, too,” he concluded.
