Vita Nova walks an extra mile in Mandela’s footsteps
The Vita Nova Centre NPO walked for a good cause on Saturday.
Eugene van der Watt enjoyed the walk with his wife, Dominique, and son, Seth.
The jovial atmosphere, complete with pirates and furry mateys, was evident when attendees at the Vita Nova Centre annual fun walk plundered the streets of Daggafontein on Saturday.
The 2.5km pirate-themed walk was an annual celebration of Nelson Mandela Day and aimed for attendees to take a resident on a walk with them.
The event raised funds for the centre and its residents, who had cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or autism and suffered physical or mental challenges.
It was also a chance for Vita Nova to spread awareness and allow the community to mingle with fellow Vita Nova supporters.
Michelle Immelman, the director of the centre, was overwhelmed by the support from the community.
“Thank you to everyone who braved the cold. We are grateful for everyone’s generosity and love,” said Immelman.
Honour Wrestling Association (HWA) wrestlers gave fans a stellar performance.
