Remembering Barend ‘Meerkat’ Grobler
Springs resident Barend ‘Meerkat’ Grobler passed away on June 17.
Barend Ben Grobler (86), born August 8, 1937, lived in Springs for over 30 years and passed away on June 17.
Affectionately known as Meerkat, he played for the Springs Rugby Club and worked for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality for over a decade.
His family said Meerkat would be remembered for always trying to better the community of Springs.
“He loved people very much. He always had something funny to say,” said his granddaughter, Chane Pieterse.
“Grandpa was a wonderful person. He always had time for people.”
Grobler is survived by his wife, Rika, a daughter and six grandchildren.
