Schoolchildren will have more time on their hands to be online during school holidays. The SAPS encourages parents and caretakers to empower themselves so they are able to help their children navigate the dangers of technology.
The lines of communication should remain open so children can go to parents when they have a question or concern about something they read, saw, or did online (even when it was wrong or inappropriate).
Teach your child to:
• Beware of strangers.
• Use suitable screen names – don’t use your actual name.
• Be aware of cyberbullies.
• Never give out personal information about him/herself or that of another player.
• Kick out any players that make them feel uncomfortable.
• Report abusive or inappropriate behavior in the reporting area of the game.
