Far East Rand Hospital welcomes new HR officer

Thabiso Kokong, who previously worked as a cleaner at the hospital, believes that staff development should be the core of ensuring healthy and happy staff.

Far East Rand Hospital (FERH) recently welcomed Thabiso Kokong as the hospital’s new officer of human resources.

Kokong brings over a decade of experience to the health industry. He is a former street child who failed his matric in 1996 and went back to school in 2001 to complete Grade 12.

“My childhood dream was to become an actor and an attorney, but due to a lack of finances, I could not reach my dreams,” said Kokong.

Kokong was appointed in 2005 at FERH as a cleaner, and in 2007 he took a transfer to Ekurhuleni Health District as a general worker on level two.

He was promoted to human resources clerk in December 2008 and took a transfer back to the hospital in 2011 in the same capacity.

Kokong’s vision in human resources is to work with management to ensure that they restore the dignity of the hospital and that service delivery is upheld at all times.

“I believe that staff development should be core to ensuring healthy and happy staff members. I vow to continue treating everyone with respect and dignity,” he affirmed.
