Food drive aids the elderly

The kitchen staff couldn’t stop smiling once the groceries were unloaded and sorted.

Integra Properties held a food drive at Sherwood Pick n Pay on June 10 in aid of the Eric Holdtman Service Centre. The public donated food and money that allowed the centre to buy chicken.

The service centre provides food for pensioners, but with a cut in government funding, it has become almost impossible to continue the feeding scheme.

The government restored the subsidy, but it is nowhere near the amount needed to run the centre since it goes to food, staff salaries and maintenance.

The centre gives food to the pensioners living at Tweedy Park and various old age homes in town. This is why they were grateful to Integra Properties and the public for their generous donations.

The centre received staples but still needs meat and fruit.

The Integra Properties group plans to hold the next food drive at VC SPAR, and they hope people will again open their hearts and give to the elderly.
