Local athlete excels at masters athletics champs

Champion runner Hendrik Booysen from Geduld does it again.

Geduld athlete Hendrik Booysen (67) recently earned silver and bronze medals at the 46th South African Masters Athletics Championships in Cape Town.

The professional master athlete, who represented the province, competed in the 65–70 age category.

Hendrik ran in the 200m, 400m, and 800m track championships.

“I was pleased with my performances and to be able to make my town and the province proud,” said Hendrik.

Hendrik is confident this year is his year for big achievements since he has also qualified for the World Masters Games in November.

“I will continue to work hard and do my best to keep fit and do what I have loved since the age of six.”

Hendrik runs in the masters division, which is for athletes over the age of 60.
