Parkrunners, walkers get sweaty on Freedom Day

Bring your friends and family for some fun-filled exercise.

Some 106 parkrunners and walkers honoured Freedom Day the only way they knew how. The special event saw 20 first-time runners at President’s Park.

Nineteen volunteers helped old and new participants to navigate the double-lap 5km trail.

The participants ran, jogged or walked the distance and claimed 12 new personal bests while trying to beat the male and female divisions’ records.

The results for April 27:
Females
1. Clare Dott: 24:45
2. Chazanne Buys 28:23
3. Celeste Booysen 28:25

Males
1. Willie Palmer 21:25
2. Craig Techow 23:32
3. Marius Kamffer 23:45

The Springs parkrun is held every Saturday at 08:00. Entry is free.

Runners and walkers of all ages can register at President’s Park before the run/walk – get there with your phone, and the parkrun members will help you.

Bring your loved ones for some healthy fun and meet new people. Those who can’t walk or run can always go as volunteers – all are welcome.
