Springs SAPS embark on an initiative to promote safer schools

The Springs SAPS will implement safer school campaigns to ensure secure and orderly learning environments.

The Springs SAPS will implement safer school campaigns to ensure secure and orderly learning environments.

The goal is to increase police officers’ involvement in fostering safe and disciplined school environments.

“Safety in schools is frequently a significant barrier to learning,” said Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala.

“Crime, violence, and abuse affect our community, and schools are not always free from fear, intimidation, or victimisation.”

Tshabalala said the Department of Basic Education is dedicated to preventing, managing, and responding to incidents of crime and violence in schools in collaboration with the SAPS.

The Springs SAPS encourages schools to establish and maintain a safe school committee that consists of internal stakeholders of the school, for example, learners, educators, School Governing Body members, and school security personnel.

The external role players include the SAPS, local ward councillors, social workers, and the Community Police Forum (CPF).
