Life Springs Parkland Hospital recognised for clinical excellence

The Life Springs Parkland Hospital received a better than expected rating in Discovery Health’s Hospital Care Rating index.

The Life Springs Parkland Hospital received a better-than-expected rating in Discovery Health’s Hospital Care Rating index.

This rating compares the performance of 146 private hospitals across South Africa against a range of clinical outcomes and operational efficiency criteria.

“We welcome acknowledgements such as this which highlights the exceptional work we are doing to drive our culture of continuous quality improvement and patient safety,” said hospital manager Cora Muller.

Dr Louis Kathan, the chief medical officer at Life Healthcare South Africa, said that for the past 20 years, Life Healthcare had set performance and quality standards and regularly measured the performance of its hospitals against benchmarks to ensure enhanced care and customer experience.

“Our 10-year quality report (2010-2020) sets out the framework that underpins the Life Healthcare quality improvement journey.

“The success of this approach is borne out by the continuous improvement in patient satisfaction, patient safety and clinical-quality measures and outcomes over the past decade. We are pleased to have substantially improved Life Healthcare’s quality outcomes since 2010.

“We believe we impact and improve lives daily through our quality measures. We have consistent, robust initiatives that include quality scorecards and quality measurement data and monitoring.

“We capture patient feedback at multiple points of the patient journey and have numerous programmes supporting our commitment to a positive patient experience,” said Kathan.

While the rating index supports ongoing improvement efforts in the quality of care, the recognition also highlights excellence and recognises those hospitals listed in the index with a certificate of acknowledgement for their achievement.

“We value our employees and thank our hospital team for their commitment to quality which contributes to the success of the hospital and achieving this type of recognition,” added Muller.

To celebrate this, the management of the hospital gave a cupcake to all the employees, doctors and support staff with the words ‘You’re the Best’.
