Zak Kleynhans (13) from Selection Park is a passionate gardener whose love for nature started when he was six years old.
“I have been gardening for about seven years now. It all started with my brother giving me a few plants to grow,” he explained.
When asked why he loves gardening, Zak says he has a love for nature.
“I love beautiful things. I also love watching things grow.”
Zak also sells some of the plants that he has grown in his garden.
“I sell some of my plants so the money can go towards my savings so that one day I can expand my growing business and study further,” he said.
His mom Alicia says she has learnt a lot as she doesn’t have green thumbs.
“He often gives me succulents and I take them with me to work because I don’t have to do much to maintain them,” she said.

He adds that much like succulents, strawberries are easy plants to grow as they just need to be watered regularly and given plenty of sun time.
Zaj mentioned that he wants to grow up to be a farmer.
“I want to deal with both plants and animals,” he said.
