Dynamic Archery hosts Africa Genesis Archery competition

The competition received a great turn out and was deemed a success.

Dynamic Archery hosted the interschool’s AGA-SA competition (Africa Genesis Archery – South Africa) in Springs at Hoërskool Hugenote on February 25.

This competition was hosted on behalf of AGA – SA Ekurhuleni, which forms part of Ekurhuleni Archery Association which in turn is affiliated to the Ekurhuleni Sports Council.

There were 22 schools and nine archery clubs represented including Springs’ own Dynamic Archery. These schools and clubs hail from Gauteng, Free State, North West and Mpumalanga.

“We had 444 archers shooting 17 760 arrows on the day,” said Dynamic Archery coach Grietjie Polman.

The archers were divided into five flights with 100 archers per flight. Each flight was shot at distances of 10m and 15m.

The range masters and officials had their hands full with so many archers, but archery being such a disciplined sport; it was more the long hours in the hot sun than the hard work on the range to keep control over all the participants that were exhausting.

After a full day of archery, Dynamic Archery walked away with six medals and four overall trophy winners.

This was a successful day considering the level of competitions.

“We are grateful to Hoërskool Hugenote and the personnel for providing the school grounds and facilities for this great event. We were complimented by all the participants for this venue and of course as Dynamic Archery we were proud to be part of Hugenote,” said Polman.

“We are also grateful for the schools and clubs that participated in the competition, but also for their support in setting up the range, providing range officials, and breaking up the range after the competition. It showed how much can be achieved when we stand together for the same goal.”

Some of the winners from the club include Noel Flaherty, who took first place in the high school male division, and Marnu Burgers, who achieved second place in the primary school male division.
