The City of Ekurhuleni advises residents to keep their taps closed at all times during water supply interruptions to avoid erroneous billing caused by air trapped in the pipes passing through the water meters.
The water metering glitch, which some residents may have encountered during the recent water supply interruptions, is because the city uses mechanical water flow meters that may have their flow measuring devices turn not only by liquid but may also be turned by airflow.
Having the taps closed during water supply interruptions will not only prevent an unnecessarily high water bill when water runs unattended, but will also prevent flooding on one’s property.
