Empowering teenagers through beauty pageant

Organisers of Miss Teen Daggafontein expressed their gratitude to other stakeholders who supported the pageant.

Daggafontein resident Nontokozo Ngwenya hosted the Miss Teen Daggafontein programme as an additional approach to child development within the area.

In a collaboration with the Daggafontein Community Desk and Kwasa College Pre and Primary School, the aim of the pageant was to empower, inspire and encourage a girl child to pursue her dreams without being limited by her upbringing.

“The aim was to foster an environment that enables the children to explore where their talents lie while developing their skills through their participation in activities beyond physical sports,” said Nontokozo.

Nontokozo expressed that things started out uneasy but quickly progressed as the day went by.

“The preparations were overwhelming, but as soon as we arrived at the venue, the finalists started settling in and preparing to be on stage.

“It was all smiles and excitement. The room was filled with so much energy.

“It was a beautiful experience for the finalists. Each one demonstrated their uniqueness, individuality, confidence, and pure enjoyment of being on stage,” said Nontokozo.

Miss Teen Daggafontein Sizakele Shabangu said shock overtook her as she was announced as the winner.

“I couldn’t believe it, but I’m very happy that I won,” said Sizakele.

“Entering the pageant helped me boost my confidence, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

The organisers pleaded with the Daggafontein community to be more involved in such programmes because they are important for the development of their children.

“We are in great need of support from parents and community leaders. We believe that the pageant would have been far more successful if they were working with us,” said Nontokozo.
