Gingers Golf Day celebrates remarkable year

It was an eventful day at Pollak Park Golf Day, as the club hosted its Gingers Golf Day final competition.

On Saturday, Pollak Park Golf Club hosted its final Gingers Golf Day for the year to celebrate its remarkable competition throughout the year.

The golf competition, which has been running for over 30 years, was founded by the late Robert Burns Campbell-Atkins, who would attend the prize-giving together with his wife Cathy.

“To this day, we are very thankful to Ginger for establishing this wonderful golf competition at the club,” said Bruce Gardener from the club.

“Ginger originally played in the Link Belt monthly competition at Pollak Park, and when it was stopped, he started a monthly golf day himself, calling it Gingers Golf Day.”

“This has remained a tradition at the local golf club,” said Gardener.

Gardener explains that golfers meet at the club every month to decide on the monthly winner who will take the trophy home.

“The winner would have their name engraved in the trophy to join all the previous winners who had won over the last 30 years,” said Gardener.

After the competition, golfers were treated to a scrumptious meal and prize-giving for the month’s winner and players who qualified to enter the annual cumulative scores golf day.
