DEMS launches summer awareness campaign

This year`s theme is Caring is Life Saving.

MMC for Community Safety Khathutshelo Rasilingwane officially launched the summer safety awareness campaign in Skoonplaas informal settlement on Friday.

The Department of Services and Disaster Management (DEMS) will collectively work hand in glove with residents of Ekurhuleni and its visitors in addressing life-threatening emergencies.

These include adverse weather conditions associated with lightning strikes, flash floods, drownings and other disasters leading to loss of life.

Rasilingwane urges parents to take the safety of their children into deep consideration.

“One life lost is one too many. In the City of Ekurhuleni, no one should be left destitute and vulnerable,” she emphasised.

The MMC said DEMS will remain on high alert to assist during man-made or natural disasters within the city throughout the festive season.

“Safety of all city residents and visitors is our priority. Zero injuries and fatalities are our ultimate objectives in this period,” she said.

DEMS will engage the public in different residential areas and shopping malls throughout the festive season.

“The city`s co-strategy is to build resilient communities for all emergencies and disaster-related incidents, hence the theme Caring is Life Saving,” Rasilingwane added.

The campaign will be expanded throughout the festive season.
