In loving memory of Margaret Howie

Margaret Howie and her husband, Jim, first stayed in the Springs Hotel and then at one of the mine houses at Number 2 Shaft, Struisbult, before moving into their previous Strubenvale home.

Margaret Howie (77), born March 21, 1945, lived in Strubenvale for 51 years before relocating to Heatherpark in George, passed away on October 17.

She was married to Jim Howie for 58 years, and they were blessed with two sons, Gary and Brian, a daughter-in-law, Robyn, and eight grandchildren.

Margaret and Jim emigrated from Scotland in February 1971 to South Africa with their sons, setting up a wonderful life and family together.

Margaret was well-known in the community for her happy-go-lucky attitude, always making friends wherever she went and telling naughty jokes.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2021, Margaret lived life to the fullest and maintained her bright outlook on life.
No service will be held as Margaret has donated her body to science.

On November 3, the family will gather to spread her ashes in the mountains she loved near Outeniqua Pass.

For those who knew her, the family invites you to raise a glass with your loved ones in her memory or to make a donation to Parkinson’s Africa at https://www.parkinsonsafrica.org/get-involved
