Illegal immigrants arrested during operation

On Tuesday morning, the Springs SAPS held an operation focused mainly on illegal mining, closing down illegal shebeens and saturation.

On Tuesday morning, the Springs SAPS, with the help of the NIU, CIG, K9, Mounted Unit, Ekurhuleni Infrastructure Task Team, Ekurhuleni Taxi Violence Task Team, EMPD, PRASA, Immigration Office, Gauteng Traffic Police and the Hawks, held an operation focused mainly on illegal mining, closing down illegal shebeens and saturation.
“The station commander welcomed the arrest of 16 suspects, 12 of whom are illegal immigrants.
“One suspect was arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence.
“Three suspects were arrested for possession of suspected drugs,” explained Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, communications officer of Springs SAPS.

During the operation equipment that was suspected to be used in illegal mining was confiscated.

During the searches, pendukas were confiscated.
“We also confiscated 4 982lt of alcohol and suspected drugs.
“The suspects will appear before the Springs Magistrate’s Court during the week,” added Tshabalala.
