Members of greater Springs voice their concerns at meeting

The Broader Springs forum gave citizens a platform to have their concerns heard.

The Springs Broader Sector Forum general meeting was hosted at Selpark Primary School on last Saturday.
This was a forum open to the members of sectors two, three and seven to bring forth their queries and concerns.
The meeting was chaired by EEC Cluster DC Operations commander Barend van Heerden.
There were opening statements from members of various authorities such as the EMPD and the councillor’s office. Comments were made with regards to crime and vandalism as well as cable theft.
Members of Selection Park, Selcourt, SRA, Edelweiss, Clydesdale, Daggafontein, Struisbuild, Casseldale, Strubenvale, Horses’ Head, rural areas, Endicott, Largo and Aston Lake communities were present to ask their questions and receive feedback from the respective authorities with regards to solutions and a way forward.

Some of the issues that arose are:
• Citizens don’t report crimes
• The correct discarding of confidential information
• Noise complaints
• Lack of manpower and vehicles to help with patrolling areas
• The rising crime rates in informal settlements
• Procedures on how to conduct a citizen’s arrest
• Drugs and dirt in and around Springs
• Maintenance of municipal areas as they have become crime hot spots due to neglect
• Illegal fishing in the Blesbok
• Zama zamas and their operations
• Citizens from informal settlements would like a small station to help certify documents
• Livestock protection especially around the Endicott area
• Training for CPF members
• Illegal dumping

Various members of authority were present to address concerns.

Members of the sectors were given responses to their queries. Further assistance was granted for those with open cases and matters that could not be discussed in a public setting.
