Cleaning up George Sutter Park for Mandela Day

Local realtors at Markon spent Mandela Day at the George Sutter Park on Nigel Road.

Local realtors at Markron spent 67 minutes on Mandela Day cleaning up George Sutter Park on Nigel Road.
The state of the park is what drove them to extend their hand in sprucing up the environmental space.
With the nice weather allowing, the local realtors were seen with refuse bags and disposable gloves picking up piles of rubbish.

Local realtors Markon were joined by Ronnie Mokabane who stopped by to help clean the park.

Realtor Dorette Kruger reflected on how George Sutter Park used to be years ago, stating that she used to bring her daughter when they lived around the area.
“This used to be a lovely park and we would come here often. Now it’s so sad to see it in this state. The things we’ve picked up are so scary.
“Springs as a city offers a selection of parks for the community but they are not maintained. Our children should be allowed to use the parks as a safe environment,” she said.

Dorette believes it’s important to keep public spaces clean for the community and also to promote clean living for everyone, particularly children.
Simphiwe Mbatsane said it felt good to spend Mandela Day making a difference in the community.
“We hope this will generate interest among other businesses in our community. The nice thing about our town is that a lot of people are in support of each other and I believe if we can adopt the right mentality we can make a difference,” she said.
During the clean-up, a good Samaritan who was passing along the street stopped by to join the team.
Ronnie Mokabane said he always believes in doing good even if it’s not Mandela Day.
“We need to do good all the time, that way it shows unity as a community,” he said.
Dorette’s daughter, Lené Kruger, wants other children to also make a difference by helping to save the planet.
