Birds thriving at duck pond

"We enjoy sitting here and watching them."

Kathy and Henry Preston have been maintaining the duck pond in George Sutter Park on Nigel Road for more than 10 years.
Since earlier this year AfriForum Springs has been assisting the couple to clean and maintain the duck pond. They also help provide food regularly.
“Once a month, AfriForum and their team help to cut the grass and keep the area in good condition,” Henry said.

Every morning the ducks and geese are fed by Kathy and Henry.

The couple originally became involved because they love animals and it gave them something to do.
Today they see the ducks and geese as their own and enjoy spending time at the pond.
The birds are fed every day. “The moment they see our car pulling up, they head for the gate -excited in knowing that they are going to be fed,” said Henry.
The pond has more than 40 geese and 12 ducks. Over the years, khoi have been donated and the pond is home to 35 khoi.
