The Springs Advertiser has received numerous complaints from motorists about how traffic is exacerbated when there is no electricity.
This leads to traffic lights not working.
The Advertiser asked the EMPD about the possibilities of officers being stationed at busy intersections at these times.
According to EMPD media liaison officer Lerato Monyane, the simple answer is that it is possible for EMPD officers to be deployed at traffic lights when there is load-shedding during peak hours – whether in the mornings or afternoons.

“If the motorist approaches traffic lights without power, approach it as a four-way stop.
“Please comply with officers who are deployed at traffic intersections and being patient is of the most paramount.
“Always be extra vigilant for pedestrians wearing dark clothing, especially when they cross the road unsafely.
“The use of a cellphone is prohibited at all times when driving, because the road needs the motorist’s full attention.
“The vehicle must be roadworthy so that all lights are in a good working condition,” she said.
Monyane also encourages the community to be cautious in their homes.
“The community is advised to be very cautious with the use of candles at home, especially around children.
“If a community member is jogging, please do so with a group of other joggers and also wear reflective clothing.
“When using gas be careful with the opening and closing, more especially around children as they always want to explore new things,” she added.
