No gold medals for league winners

Valencia FC players want the gold medals they earned.

The chairperson of Valencia FC, Kaizer Mntoyintoni, is unhappy with the Springs Local Football Association after his club won the league but players were awarded bronze medals.
According to him, the association did not meet their promise by awarding gold medals to the league winners.
Mntoyintoni said the association claims the medals were stolen.
“We competed like any other team in the league but we were treated like third prize winners,” said Mntoyintoni.
The chairperson is unhappy with the outcome and said his players were confused.
“Everyone was very disappointed. I did not want to kill their spirit of playing football because they are passionate about the sport. I had to sit them down and make them understand what the issues are. I am trying to get to the bottom of it,” he said.

Mntoyintoni said there have been similar complaints about the association in the past.
This time around, with his team, he did not want to be taken for a ride.
“All the clubs in the league contribute a fee to the association for trophies and medals for the top three teams. All the teams received the same bronze medals which did not make sense,” said Mntoyintoni.
The Advertiser spoke to the association’s administrator, Prince Ramekgwa, who stated Mntoyintoni was informed about the medals and that there are plans to get the team what is rightfully theirs.
“I was doing them a favour because I used my finances to sponsor those bronze medals while we are trying to get to the bottom of what happened to the gold medals,” he said.
Ramekgwa added the team needs to be patient with him while he tries to resolve the matter.
“I understand the frustrations but they need to understand I am trying my best on my side,” he said.
