Selcourt resident Chichima Sikhonde (17) is the new Mr Teen Africa 2022.
“I only started modelling in April 2021. This win is now the highlight of my journey,” he said
The pageant was hosted in April by Pageants SA in Pretoria.
Sikhonde competed against contestants from all over Africa in his age category. He achieved an overall score of more than 90%.
His first major competition was Rainbow Nations in 2021, where he was crowned the first prince.
“I was not happy with that result. Since that day I was intent on doing my best to win the next one. And it paid off,” he added.

The Spring Boys’ High School learner started modelling because he believes the platform will offer him a platform to make positive changes in people’s lives.
“I want to use my voice to make people think better of themselves,” he said.
Sikhonde also recently received his red belt in karate.
“For me, modelling is not just a hobby. My long-term goal is to push it as far as I can go with it,” he said.
In his spare time, he enjoys listening to rap music and playing the drums. When he needs a break, he reverts to his pencil sketches.
He is also an avid animal lover.
