Oranjehof water issue not a neglected leak says councillor

Resident questions whether clean drinking water is going to waste.

A concerned resident believes that clean water is going to waste in Oranjehof.
Lappies Labuschagne drives along Tuin Street often and claims a water leak has been ignored by the municipality for months.

A section of Tuin Street is closed off to traffic because it is badly damaged.

“It has been so long that part of the road is eroding because of the water. And if this is clean water, the metro is wasting water that we could be drinking. This does not make sense to me,” he said.
The water seems to be streaming from a source behind Olympia Park School.
The road is sectioned off near the water spillage and was cordoned off because of damage to the road surface.
Thulane Simelane, Ward 74 councillor, said the flow is due to tests conducted at the new Pam Brink Reservoir, and not a neglected leak.

“The water comes out of a stormwater drain. There was a damaged water pipe behind Olympia, but that was fixed. I have reported the damage to the Department of Roads and Transport.
“I have also made the Department of Water and Sanitation aware of the water from the new reservoir dams on Tuin Street.”
Simelane could not confirm when the reservoir will be complete and functional.
