Robbers ambush staff at supermarket

A cashier was assaulted during the incident.

A supermarket in Bakerton was robbed 15 minutes before closing time on Thursday evening.
Eight of the store’s employees were preparing to close when four men walked in.

“One of the robbers had a gun. One of the cashiers was slapped and instructed to open the till,” explained Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer of Springs SAPS.
The robbers made off with about R27 550 and eight cellphones.
“They fled on foot,” added Ramphora.
