Unlicensed gun and ammo land man in cuffs

Springs SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members, under the command of Capt Mervyn Kasavan, received information about a man suspected of selling ammunition to illegal miners in Welgedacht.

A 56-year-old man was recently arrested after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The officers reacted swiftly to the information and rushed to the scene.
“On arrival, they found the man inside a shop and requested to search him.
“In the man’s bag, the officers found four 9mm live rounds and two 7.65mm live rounds.
“The suspect was questioned and explained he had picked up the ammunition in the veld.
“The police were not convinced with the explanation and requested the suspect accompany them to his residence to conduct a further search, to which he agreed,” explained Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer at Springs SAPS.
When they arrived at the address, officers found a 7.65mm gun without any ammunition.
The man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He was detained at the Springs Police Station.
The station commander, Brig Thembeke Gwebushe, applauded the members for their commitment.
