New CEO brings new vision to Far East Rand Hospital

“I believe change is all about setting systems. It is important for all of us to know that we are not here for our own preferences, but we are here to serve our patients.”

The Far East Rand Hospital has a new head at the helm with the appointment of Sonwabo Lindani as CEO.
He promises to serve and structure the hospital for patients and employees alike.
“I took over on January 1. Before that, I was a CEO at Carletonville Hospital with about three years’ service,” he said.
He likes working with an ambitious team that will not fail when being coordinated and re-directed to win.
“I believe change is all about setting systems. It is important for all of us to know that we are not here for our preferences, but we are here to serve our patients,” said Lindani.

For him, the staff is key. When the morale is very low, that might be dangerous to the hospital.
“Most of the time, that is the challenge we face at the hospital. I will be launching a lot of projects that are going to be speaking to the staff. If I am going to want my staff to serve with a smile, I need to also be concerned about their wellness. They need to work in an adequate workplace,” he said.
Lindani believes that if the workers are also being appreciated the patients will be happy with the service.

Newly appointed CEO Sonwabo Lindani

“We will be launching the ‘I Serve With A Smile’ project before the end of February. The main thing, for now, is to improve hospitality in terms of patient care. There have been complaints that come through to us about colleagues’ attitudes. I met with the unions of the hospital and I saw a lot are being demoralised.
“We need them to work on that and make staff feel appreciated.
“My biggest mandate is to all finish all the projects at the hospital when it comes to the facility. Changing of floors and extending the units to be able to accommodate numbers that are coming in,” he said.

Lindani’s plan is also to have wards in the hospital specifically for mental health patients. He plans to make the hospital more spacious for all patients.
“My hopes for the hospital are to give quality services for our people. We need to stay motivated as staff members to help our people. We are here to work and serve patients.
“I want our patients to feel welcome when they come. Our patients should not come here because they don’t have any other choice but come knowing that we exist for them,” said Lindani.
