Man assaulted during hijacking

The Apex Court resident told police he had just parked his car after driving back from the shops when he was approached by three men. He suspected they had climbed over the fence into the yard.

A 38- year-old man was robbed of his Volkswagen Golf on Thursday in Springs.
The Apex Court resident told police he had just parked his car after driving back from the shops when he was approached by three men.
He suspected they had climbed over the fence into the yard.
“They threatened him with a gun and demanded the car keys. One of them took his wallet and forced him to get inside the car,” explained Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer for the Springs SAPS.

The robbers then drove off with the victim.
“They eventually stopped at Jacob’s Farm. He claims the robbers told him to phone someone to bring him R20 000 in cash. They also demanded his bank card,” he added.
The victim claims that the robbers got violent when he told them he did not have money and was assaulted.
“One of them drove away with the car, and the victim was left in the bushes. They told him to find his way out,” said Ramphora.
The value of the car is R65 000.
