Springs schools maintain good matric pass rates

The Class of 2021 at Springs schools fought through unusual circumstances to maintain a good pass rate.

The Springs Muslim School maintained excellent results with a 100% pass rate in the National Senior Certificate exams, once again. Principal Mohammed Asvat said their school has been performing well for the past few years and have outdone itself.
“We are always grateful for 100%. Our learners are performing well and we still aim to do good,” said Asvat.
Veritas College teachers and the principal are proud of their school, which proudly boasted a 100% pass rate. In addition, 28 of 30 learners attained bachelor’s degree passes and the others diploma passes. Eight out of 30 learners attained an average of 70%, while 14 attained an average between 60 to 69% and the remaining eight averaged between 50 to 59%. Six learners may choose to get a remark on 79%.

“Well done on coping with the challenges of Covid-19,” said Veritas principal Judy Achary.
“While matric is the final chapter in the epic story of school education, it is only the beginning of new adventures to come.”
Learners from Dr WK du Plessis School also achieved a 100% pass rate and an astounding 62% of their learners attained university passes.

The school is very proud of what their learners achieved and wish them the best of luck for the future.

Springs Girls’ High School experienced a drop from 98.7% in 2020 to 97.7%. Bachelor’s degree passes were obtained by 81% of those learners, with 139 distinctions in total.
“I am proud of them. There were so many challenges. They did not sit for the usual exams in Grade 11, but they pushed through and gave us such great results,” said principal Angela Jones.
Springs Boys’ High School also experienced a slight drop from 97.4% in 2020 to 96.9%. Of the 128 learners who sat for the National Senior Certificate exams, two achieved seven distinctions each.
“I am very pleased with the final results. The quality of our passes is great. I would like to thank the boys, teachers and parents for their joint efforts with all challenges we faced because of the pandemic.
“Congratulations to the Class of 2021,” said principal Diane Freeman.
Dr Johan Jurgens High School learners performed well with an impressive 95.6% pass rate.

Springs Secondary School also did an outstanding job and obtained a 92.8% pass rate.
“I am very proud of the results after it dropped last year. I have a very committed team and I am proud of how they are making it a team effort,” said principal Kishan Bodalina.

Springs Technical High School obtained an 83.7% pass rate.
“I did expect this from them after they did not do well in their prelims. They surprised me and I am really happy with them,” said principal Puseletso Hoaeane.

Eureka High School improved from 54.8% in 2020 to 66.9%.
“I am happy that we have done better than the previous school year, but I am sad that we did not achieve our goal of 80%. “I would have settled for 70% as well,” said principal Jabu Mabuza.
On Thursday, Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga announced the national matric pass rate for the Class of 2021 was 76.4%, an increase of 0.2% from the previous year.
