“My interest in politics originated from my father, councillor Wally Labuschagne, who served as a mayor and MPL during his political career that spanned 40 years.
“I became involved with the DA as an activist in 2014 and subsequently was elected as ward councillor following the Local Government Elections in 2016.
“During this process, Glenda Steyn, Ashor Sarupen and Shadow Shabangu guided me diligently, for which I will be forever grateful,” he said.

Labuschagne believes the main challenge facing the entire City of Ekurhuleni is the deployment of officials to positions in which they are not fit for purpose, resulting in poor service delivery across departments.
He said there are, however, many dedicated and hardworking officials in the metro.
“I gained considerable experience during my first term as a ward councillor. In the new term, I intend to do everything possible to conduct proper oversight to ensure officials and departments are held accountable,” he added.
Labuschagne is passionate about community safety.
“If street lights are not working, it encourages crime. Besides all the infrastructure maintenance and development challenges the metro faces, street lights will be an issue I drive on an ongoing basis,” he concluded.
