Man hijacked by bogus cops

The 31-year-old man was driving his brother's white Hyundai i20 when he heard a siren and saw what he presumed to be a police white double-cab bakkie.

A man was robbed of the vehicle in which he was travelling by hijackers masquerading as police officers in Wright Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The 31-year-old man was driving his brother’s white Hyundai i20 when he heard a siren and saw what he presumed to be a police white double-cab bakkie.
“He stopped in front of a petrol station and three men dressed in police uniforms and one in plain clothes came to his car,” explained Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer at Springs SAPS.

The victim alleged he was instructed to get out of the car and the ‘officers’ searched the vehicle.
“He was handcuffed and put in the back of the police bakkie,” added Ramphora.
One of the men then drove the victim’s car to 8th Street in the CBD.
“They searched his car again, this time looking for drugs, but they found nothing.
“One of the bogus policeman then made a phone call and another man arrived in a red Volkswagen Polo,” said Ramphora.
The victim claimed the i20 was driven off by one of the men, while another drove off with him.
He was later released unharmed in Balfour.
