Security guards were ambushed at the Transnet Electronical Depot in Geduld after 24:00 on Tuesday.
The two guards reported they were sitting in the guardroom when the lights suddenly went off.
“Three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, pushed open the door.
“The guards were instructed to remove their shoelaces, which were then used to tie their hands,” explained Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer of Springs SAPS.
The victims were left in the room with one of the robbers.

“Two of the thugs went outside and the guards heard what sounded like copper cable being cut.
“They also allege the gunman was communicating telephonically with someone else, telling them to check if there is a car coming.
“A few minutes later, they heard the sound of a car entering the gate, which was closed but not locked,” added Ramphora.
The robbers made off with about 200m of copper cable and three bottles of gas. They also took three cellphones.
The stolen goods are valued at approximately R500 000.
A bolt cutter was found outside the yard near the main gate.
