Gunmen subdued guards to steal a cable at the Eskom Power Station in Struisbult in the early hours of Monday morning.

It is alleged that a guard at the facility was in the guard room where he was surprised when his colleague walked in, escorted by thugs carrying guns.

“The robbers then took the guards to the control offices where their hands were tied with their shoelaces.
“They were then left with two of the armed robbers,” explained Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer of the Springs SAPS.

The victims believe there could have been 15 robbers.
About 100m of four core copper cables, worth around R250 000, were stolen.
“The cable was working and connected. They cut the wire fence at the back of the power station to enter and exit. They also took three cellphones, two hand radios and one pair of work boots,” added Ramphora.
