Car guard gunned down in CBD

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora the man and his wife were travelling in a silver-grey Ford Ranger before arriving at a parking lot in the CBD on Wednesday morning.

A man was arrested after fatally shooting a car guard and injuring his wife in the process.
According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer at the Springs SAPS, the man and his wife were travelling in a silver-grey Ford Ranger before arriving at a parking lot in the CBD on Wednesday morning.
They both approached the victim.

“Witnesses said that the husband had a firearm in his hand. The man then assaulted the guard with the butt of the firearm while the woman was holding the victim down,” he said.
During the altercation, a shot went off, injuring the gunman’s wife.
“She was crying, telling her husband that he shot her,” added Ramphora.
It is alleged that the man then shot the victim three times. He then walked away and attended to his wife.
The victim got up and managed to run out of the parking lot onto 4th Street.

“The suspect then fired another shot towards the victim, damaging a vehicle in the process,” said Ramphora.
The victim eventually collapsed on the pavement in front of a local locksmith.
The gunman then asked other car guards to help him load his wife into his car.
She sustained a gunshot wound to her thigh and her husband took her to a nearby hospital.
He was later arrested and detained at the Springs Police Station. The car guard was certified dead on the scene by paramedics.
