Learners and Rotary Club of Springs to clean up CBD

The initiative is the brainchild of Makaita Chivonivoni, a Grade 11 learner at Springs Girls’ High School.

The Rotary Club of Springs has partnered with the Interact Club at Springs Girls’ and Boys’ high schools to clean up Springs on October 2.
The initiative is the brainchild of Makaita Chivonivoni, a Grade 11 learner at Springs Girls’ High School.
The clean-up will start and end at the entrance to Ace Auto, next to the old fire station with volunteers checking in and being given bin-liners (green and black) and being put into groups for the pick-up at 08:30.
Volunteers are requested to wear purple shirts so that they are easily identifiable.
“We have been able to secure the assistance of a local plastic recycling business that has agreed to collect all the green bin-liners (filled with plastic only) that the volunteers leave on the route for recycling purposes.
“The ward councillors for Springs town have secured the assistance of the Ekurhuleni Solid Waste Department, which will collect the black bin-liners filled with general refuse, as well as the SAPS and ProSafe to assist with roving patrols to ensure the safety of the volunteers on the day,” said the scribe at the Rotary Club of Springs, Lauren Webber-Froneman.
