Metro still hasn’t addressed sewage problems

In their attempts to report the problem, the Pococks have been sent from pillar to post.

Sewage continues to plague residents of Springs, especially those living in municipal housing complexes.
Awengloed residents Dudley and Barbara Pocock have become overwhelmed with the problem.
Their small stand is surrounded by sewage, which has submerged their front yard.
Sewage continuously spills out of a drain cover and has been doing so since last week Monday, according to Dudley.
In their attempts to report the problem, the Pococks have been sent from pillar to post.
So far the departments of health and housing were of no help either.

“We don’t know where to go anymore. It feels like the metro just doesn’t care,” said a frustrated Dudley.
Dudley and Barbara said the sewage interferes with their everyday lives.
“We can’t cook, we can’t hang our washing outside and the sewage attracts huge flies. Plus, the sewage has started pushing up water in our toilets and basins. It really is impossible to live like this,” said Barbara.
Barbara said a local plumber told her the issue is caused by poor and ineffective work done on the pipes.
This problem is apparently rampant in municipal housing around Springs, with residents in Rusoord facing a similar problem.

In their case, the metro also failed to help and also repeatedly told them they would send a team over, only for nobody to show up.
The municipality has failed to respond to queries on those reports.
Ward councillors Lorna Beharie, Dean Stone and Thulani Simelane said they will push the metro to deliver solutions.
Comment from the City of Ekurhuleni will be published as soon as it has been received.
