Brenda McStay celebrates 20 bonus years

For her heroic actions that fateful night, Trixi was awarded the South African Veterinary Association’s Super Pet of the Year in 2001.

When Brenda McStay was attacked by her Rhodesian Ridgeback after arriving home on August 23, 2001, she didn’t think she was going to make it.
Luckily for her, her fox terrier Trixi was there to save her life and although being much smaller than the Ridgeback, Trixi did just enough to save both their lives.
Brenda sustained several puncture wounds during the attack and lost the first phalange on her left ring finger and Trixi needed over 70 stitches.
Last Saturday, Brenda’s family and friends celebrated 20 years of life and paid tribute to Trixi for her heroic actions that day.

“I am alive today through God’s grace and the courage of one little faithful and loving companion who was willing to sacrifice her life if necessary to save mine,” said Brenda.
The only person missing from the thanksgiving ceremony was Trixi, who died in 2009.
In a toast to Trixi, Brenda’s father Stuart McStay paid tribute to her and said, “God has blessed me with two daughters in a million, but Trixi was one dog in a million.”
For her heroic actions that fateful night, Trixi was awarded the South African Veterinary Association’s Super Pet of the Year in 2001 and was on the front page of the Springs Advertiser.
The family and friends gathered also collected food for the dogs and cats at the Nigel SPCA.
