Food and formula sent to KwaZulu-Natal

Mawhinney added that due to the amount of donations received and the huge amount of assistance being sent to KZN right now, they had decided to share the love and help some of our local communities that were hard hit by the looters, a lot of whom are law abiding citizens.

The people of Springs and the surrounding areas have once again shown how generous they are.
Last Thursday, Hope & Halos put out a call announcing that they were collecting food for the people in KwaZulu-Natal who have been affected by the protests and looting.
By Saturday, the first plane filled with R3 000 worth of baby formula had gone down to the coastal province.
Hope & Halos chairperson Louise Mawhinney said they were inundated with offers of assistance and calls for people in desperate need.

Mothers with infants still drinking formula were hard hit by shortage that arose after the looting in KwaZulu-Natal.

To make sure what they collected landed up in the right hands, they partnered up with another organisation based in Pietermaritzburg to receive and distribute the items.

“Our small East Rand community has shown what it is made of even in tough times such as these. They have all opened their hearts and their wallets to those in such desperate need right now.
“We understand the fear, panic and hopelessness being experienced by KZN at the moment, but we can assure you that you are not alone.
“We are in this together and we have proven that we will never allow the criminal element to control or dictate to us.

There was plenty of baby food collected by Hope &Halos to send down to KwaZulu-Natal.

“If nothing else, this crisis has shown the true colours of our beautiful nation, regardless of race, colour, religion or political affiliations.
“This country is standing together shoulder to shoulder to help KZN,” said Mawhinney.
Mawhinney added that due to the number of donations received and the huge amount of assistance being sent to KZN right now, they decided to share the love and help some of the local communities that were hit hard by the unrest, many of whom are law-abiding citizens.
“Gold Nugget in Springs is also assisting and encouraging people to order from them and they will pick up their donations when they deliver.

“Helping our restaurant industry is also very important to us as they are feeling this lockdown terribly,” said Mawhinney.
Additionally, Hope & Halos also dropped blankets off at their local SPCAs and plants to treat healthcare workers to cupcakes in appreciation for their hard work during Covid-19.
Hope & Halos is still accepting donations to help the community.
