Woman robbed in taxi

After the woman paid her fare, the men in the taxi pounced on her.

Springs police have warned commuters to be vigilant when using public transport. This comes after a woman was robbed last week after boarding a taxi near SPAR in Selcourt.

After the woman paid her fare, the men in the taxi pounced on her, robbed her of her belongings, and forced her to open her banking app so they could access her account.

The taxi in which the woman was travelling had no number plates. Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora said this was the third such case in the area. He urged commuters to make sure the taxis they are boarding are registered and safe.

The only taxis permitted to operate in town are those registered to the Springs Taxi Association. These taxis will have a sticker on them with the logo of the association and the registration number.

Commuters can contact the association on 011 815 6240 and provide the registration number located on the sticker on the side of the taxi, which will enable the association to verify if the taxi is registered.
