SPCA holds AGM

A grant of R3-million from the City of Ekurhuleni also provided much-needed relief.

The Springs SPCA held their AGM on July 28, discussing the 2020/21 financial year.

“Covid-19 took over and many businesses suffered and so did our society. I must say, our Springs community was amazing and we received contributions of food, blankets, and donations,” said chairperson Alta Gobey.

Fund-raising has remained a challenge but this year’s fun run brought in R165 000, which was essential in keeping the organisation afloat.

Three large bequests from the Springs community also provided a boost to their financials. A grant of R3-million from the City of Ekurhuleni also provided much-needed relief.

Much of their financial strain has been caused by an influx of animals over the past year. The organisation saw an increase in volunteers and is happy to see the community getting involved. Gobey is proud of the SPCA staff and the hard work they put in to keep things running smoothly.

“Hendrik Ditshego, our field officer, is doing great work, and we want to thank him for his dedication and commitment.

“He has ensured cruelty complaints are carried out timeously and that pro-active work is carried out in the jurisdiction of Springs and Delmas.

“Annecia Morton, our branch manager, is doing an outstanding task of keeping the SPCA afloat by always looking for ways to bring in funds,” said Gobey.
