Local estate agency gives back to Chance Children’s Home

Govender said if people would like to help Chance Children’s Home, but do not have money, they have discovered that assistance with cleaning, maintenance of facilities and various DIY is greatly appreciated.

Local estate agency KW Clockwork Properties have adopted Chance Children’s Home as their own.
When asked why they chose to work with the home, Isabel Govender, an agent at the agency, said the home is close to the office they have opened in Springs.
“We want to give where we live. We were touched by the fact that Chance looks after older children and teenagers too, these are children who need direction and are seeking their place in this world.
“We want them to be equipped to make a mark in the world and never feel different,” said Govender.
Govender added that she was the chairperson of Chance and volunteered for 10 years, and was therefore familiar with the organisation.

The work done by the agency for the home is driven by the agents, who donate funds themselves and have collaborated with the management of Chance Children’s Home to get funding from various organisations to fulfil the majority of essentials required.
The agency said them working with Chance is about getting together as a family to help another.
“It is not so much as what we wish to achieve as what we wish to affirm – faith in humanity and knowing we can give back into the community that supports us,” said Govender.
Last month, as part of Red Day celebrations, the agency handed over clothing and other goodies they had collected to the home, and Selcourt SPAR donated 148 packets of sanitary pads
They also got their hands dirty and helped clean the facility and the garden.

“However, just mere interaction and attention given to the residents prove to be more valuable for both parties involved,” said Govender.
She added their support for the home will be ongoing and those who wish to donate can drop off items at 178 Nigel Road or arrange for collection by calling 010 025 2507.
The home needs donations of winter shoes, tracksuits, socks, vests, beanies, gloves, duvets/sheets, heaters, underwear, exam pads, scientific calculators, mirrors, lockers, a washing machine and tumble dryer, school bags and a printer.
