Eskom says City built substation ahead of schedule

According to Eskom, the substation was vandalised before completion.

Eskom does not deny the City of Ekurhuleni’s claim that the connection point for the Krugersrus Substation was not available at the time of completion.
This was in response to last week’s article, City points fingers at Eskom, where the City stated the substation was never used because when the time came to connect the substation to the grid, the connection point from Eskom was not available.
The substation has since been vandalised.

When asked if there ever was a time when the connection point from Eskom for the substation was not available, Ronel Kotze, speaking on behalf of Eskom, said: “The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) started building its substation ahead of Eskom’s schedule.”
Kotze also confirmed the City attempted to get a connection point for the substation after it was initially not available.

“Eskom and EMM have agreed to align the construction work so both substations can be completed and commissioned at the same time to avoid repeat vandalism, as the area is quite remote.
“The project construction is planned to start in October and to be completed in August 2023,” added Kotze.
Eskom also said the substation was vandalised before completion and was built to specifications requested by the City.
