Rubbish piles up at mini-dumpsite

Problems at the Daggafontein mini-dumpsite continues to worsen.
The mini-dumpsite has been filled to capacity for more than three weeks and residents have resorted to dumping their refuse outside the site.
As reported in the Advertiser’s April 30 edition, the Rietfontein dumpsite’s closure has forced residents to use the Daggafontein mini-dumping site.

The metro explained that the Rietfontein dumpsite will be opened once a new contractor has been hired.
Ward councillor Shadow Shabangu said the dumping is a result of poor planning from the metro.

The Daggafontein mini-dumpsite is filled to capacity and rubbish has been dumped outside it’s gate.

There was no indication, however, as to when a new contractor is expected to be hired.
Daggafontein residents have become frustrated with the problem and the metro’s lack of action.

They complain the site is an eyesore and produces a stench.
According to residents, the dumping also attracts flies to the surrounding area.
