Another accident at a crash hot spot

"Someone could have been seriously injured when that bakkie crashed into our business."

First Avenue has become a hot spot for accidents and residents want the municipality to take action.
According to Meat Mecca owner Henk van Staden, there was an accident last week when a bakkie crashed into the side of his store.

Meat Mecca owner Henk van Staden believes something should be done before someone gets seriously injured or killed.

Van Staden said this was the second accident this year and the ninth accident in the past two years.
“Someone could have been seriously injured when that bakkie crashed into our business. I’m afraid someone will get seriously injured or killed.

“We have spoken to the Roads Department but they do nothing,” said van Staden.
Van Staden stated the biggest problem is when cars from the left lane try and overtake cars on the right. This results in a potential accident as a vehicle tries to join the road from Sixth Street.
“They come down the street at a massive speed and overtake without looking. We want the metro to paint the road or erect something to slow down these drivers before something horrible happens.”
Comment from the City of Ekurhuleni will be published once it has been received.
