School pleads for a rubbish skip for the community

According to the school, there is a problem with illegal dumping in the area, with many seemingly not having wheelie bins in which to put their rubbish.

Olympia Park School in Geduld is pleading with the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) to put a rubbish skip in the area.
According to the school, there is a problem with illegal dumping in the area, with many seemingly not having wheelie bins in which to put their rubbish.
The resulting piles of rubbish are an eyesore to everyone in the community and a health risk.

The dumpsite, which is down the road from the school, is filled with all kinds of rubbish, such as soiled nappies, rotten food, household waste and glass.
“The smell coming from the rubbish is horrendous.
“We have tried to clean it, but it just piles up again the next day.
“If there was a skip in which people could throw rubbish, it would help tremendously,” said principal Edith Warnick.

Warnick also said recently somebody set the rubbish on fire, obviously trying to clean it all up, but it only made things worse.
She fears that one day, somebody will set the rubbish on fire and it will spread uncontrollably and set the nearby substation alight.
Comment from CoE will be published once it has been received.
