Local studio shines at eisteddfod

Vocal coach Chantel Evans is exceptionally proud of her students, particularly as it was the studio’s first time competing in the eisteddfod.

The Local Vocal Coach studio is celebrating after their learners excelled at the Allegretto Eisteddfod Gala held late last year.
The results of the gala were revealed recently, and the studio’s learners achieved an average grade of over 90 per cent for each component of their performance.

“It was nerve-wrecking for all of us, but it was worth it,” said Evans.
The students found the experience stressful, but fun.
Zané Malan said when she was performing, she focused on herself to avoid getting nervous.
“I don’t want to psyche myself out before my performance,” said Malan.

Nevaeh Barber can be very proud of her performance.

Because of Covid-19, the studio had to submit their performance for the judges via email.
“All of the students came to the studio to record their performance and we spent many hours recording, crying and having fun. Hopefully, this year will be live, and it will give them a chance to work on their stage presence and confidence.
“It’s a different thing performing in front of your camera and being on stage,” said Evans.
Now that they have the experience of competing in the eisteddfod, the students are aiming to do even better in this year’s competition.

“I want to work harder and just be myself. I’m very shy and sometimes I get very nervous and make a lot of mistakes, then I get angry at myself,” said Morgen-Tyla Grafe.
Kara Smit said she really wants to put herself out there.
“I feel like I’m always in this box and too shy to do anything, so I want to try and do a lot more competitions,” she added.
The Selcourt-based studio is just the place to help her do that.
